You are pumped about the 2024 football season, and you want to win some bets this fall.
However, with a job and other responsibilities, you don’t have that much time on your hands. You’d love to dig into previews for all 32 NFL and 134 FBS college football teams, but life gets in the way.
Instead, you’d like to get value in your preseason content without too much of a time commitment. A little bit of entertainment would be nice too.
Valuable. Concise. Entertaining.
These are the three goals for The 60 Minute Guide to the 2024 Football Season – The Ultimate Betting and Analytics Guide. It is my audio preview that contains two stories. Think John Oliver with a math Ph.D.
First, I ask whether Josh Allen, the gunslinger, is interception prone. The three picks against the New York Jets to open last season certainly suggests he is interception prone. But what does the research say?
In this story, I explain how an initial idea from Bill Connelly of ESPN led to a simple yet profitable model for interception props last year. And I probably gave away too much information in the Justin Herbert section, one reason that The 60 Minute Guide is a paid product.
Second, I explain a surprising way to make accurate NFL spread predictions. The method seems so stupid at first that you might stop consuming my preseason guide. I hope to convince you otherwise so I can explain the beautiful and powerful ideas behind the wisdom of crowds.
At The Power Rank, I’ve never produced the most content. I don’t cover every football team in writing or audio.
Instead, my content brings ideas from analytics into the betting space. Over a decade ago, this started with my ranking algorithm that took margin of victory and adjusted for strength of schedule. This academically rigorous method has allowed me to make a career in sports at The Power Rank.
Since then, my work has been more about solving problems than academic rigor. The models discussed in The 60 Minute Guide won’t get me another advanced degree. But, as I discuss in the audio preview, the results speak for themselves.
This guide has been a labor of love this off season. It is officially an audiobook on Spotify, but I hope it transcends the usual boredom of an audiobook with humor and music.
The easiest way to consume my audio preview is on Spotify. If you are plan manager on a Duo or Family account, you can listen for no additional charge. Check out The 60 Minute Guide to the 2024 Football Season on Spotify.
Otherwise, The 60 Minute Guide is supposed be available at the reduced price of $2.99 until Sunday, August 25, 2024. However, Spotify bumped down the price to $2.49 when I looked on Thursday, August 22.
You can also find the guide on Google Play and Apple Books (search for The 60 Minute Guide to the 2024 Football Season in the app) among other places.
A written version of the guide will be available next week. However, this guide was made for audio, as the Sports Illustrated jokes do not work in the written format.
